Herbs are great in cooking. And there's nothing better than indulging yourself in your own organic herbs gardening to give yourself the best quality herbs possible.
Herbs gardening had been popular for many generations. As early as 2700 B.B., Chinese cookbooks had already identified herbs as edible plants that could often add exotic and wonderful flavors to their dishes. It wasn't long before herbs became a mainstay of Chinese cooking. And then, aside from its culinary value, the Chinese found that many herbs possessed medicinal properties. And now, thousands of years later, the countries the world over value herbs both for its culinary and medicinal properties.
The ancient Egyptians, the Hindus, the Greeks and the Romans also used herbs and herbs gardening as part of their cultures. In fact, the Greek physician Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, extensively used herbs in his medical practice.
Today, many people still rely on herbal medicine to cure certain types of illnesses. Many people, especially those who are living in the countryside do their own herbs gardening to produce fresh herbs for medicine. Some practice herbal medicine because they can't afford the cost of traditional doctors and medicines. And many people believe that herbal medicine is simply superior to many of the synthetic drugs that are sold in the pharmacies.
One should always be careful when self medication, however. It is a common belief that herbal medicine does not cause side effects like those synthetic drugs. Of course this claim is not entirely true since there are certain types of herbs that are so potent that they are toxic when taken in large qualities. In other words, natural does not necessarily mean good.
Methods of Herb Gardening
Normal outdoor herbs gardening. Many herbs grow in the wild without any help from us whatsoever. So, it's only natural that they would thrive in an outdoor setting like your back yard. The only caveat to growing herbs outdoors is that in the U.S., so much of the land has been doused with poisons and insecticides that you may be getting a healthy portion of toxic ingredients with your herbs.
Container herb gardening. Do you live in an apartment or a home that has no yard? Container gardening is an ideal way to grow herbs where you don't have much room to spare. Herbs take very little land space and can be grown either in large containers or small pots. If you love herbs, it may well be worth your time to learn how to grow herb container gardening.
Hydroponic herb gardening. You don't even need dirt or sunlight if you decide to use the hydroponic method of gardening. You will also be able to grow herbs year round, so you'll never run out of fresh herbs. You will, however, need small stones or rocks, to give the herb roots systems support. You will also need to supply them with special nutrients since they will not be able to extract them from the soil.
